Rapper 21 Savage was arrested early in the month, detained by ICE for 9 days for apparently overstaying his visa from the UK for a decade and has now been released. The part of the story that was forgotten is the fact that he was with his cousin, rapper Young Nudy who was also arrested and is still behind bars since February 9th. Just this morning we saw a vanity tag plate saying “Free 21.” Hopefully someone made one for Young Nudy.
Either way, Young Nudy was just granted $100,000 bond today in Dekalb County Superior Court on gang and gun related charges. His attorney, Scott Smith said his client Young Nudy, whose real name is Quantavious Thomas won’t be pleading guilty to the charges as well as gang-related and aggravated assault charges from 2017. This is quite the different take on the situation from his legal team’s original statement that they felt he was a victim of mistaken identity.
“We believe that Young Nudy is innocent and this is a case of mistaken identity. Young Nudy’s legal team is working closely with law enforcement to ensure this case does not get blown out of proportion,” the attorney’s statement reads. “Young Nudy is taking these charges very seriously. Had law enforcement contacted us directly we would have voluntarily surrendered, but Young Nudy was arrested shortly after a performance Saturday night.”
Similar to 21 Savage who had his felony communited but was arrested anyway because the court records hadn’t been updated, the warrant officials had for Young Nudy cited a 2017 occurence that had previously been cleared by the Atlanta Police Department, so it’s possible another records issue could have occured.
As for now, Young Nudy’s expected to be released soon. We’re assuming that soon is on the condition that he comes up with the $100,000 bond.
