BET has lost Beyonce as a performer at the BET Awards for years now and they can now add Nicki Minaj to the artists that have them on their sh** list. In a completely unprovoked event, BET’s Twitter account chose to reignite Nicki and Cardi B’s feud but poking fun at Nicki Minaj’s lack of Grammy win or even nomination. Mind you, Cardi B was the first solo rapper to win a Grammy for best rap album which was big enough for a headline but of course, that wasn’t good enough. “Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is being dragged by her lacefront,” they tweeted.
After a fan sent Nicki Minaj a screenshot of the swiftly deleted tweet, she immediately responded announcing that she was no longer participating in their summer festival. “Young Money will no longer be a part of the BET Experience or award show,” she tweeted. Lil Wayne was also booked so not only are they losing Nicki, Wayne is out and she told fans to get their refunds.

Nicki has since taken the opportunity to share her summer tour dates so fans can still get a chance to see her, albeit not on a BET stage. On the bright side, Nicki was headlining half of the festival and Cardi the other half. This may be an opportunity for Cardi to have the entire thing. And just for the fun of it, Nicki posted a screenshot of her fans letting BET have it throughout their Instagram feed saying it looked like it was BET getting “dragged by their lace front.”

Festivals have become popular in recent years for making money as album sales are down. Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne and Kanye West have all had their own festivals so of course BET would do the same. One would expect that if they were do so it would be top notch because they’re BET right? Not so. And if you attended or watched any of the footage of the one from 2015 that Nicki Minaj participated in. At one point on stage she said “Usually after this song I go down in an elevator, but BET couldn’t afford [it].” She was quite upset about their production so the offensive tweet they sent probably couldn’t have come at a better time.
BET has issued an apology to Nicki Minaj that goes as follows:
“BET loves Nicki Minaj. We have supported her from the very beginning of her career and will continue to do so moving forward. Nicki has paved the way for so many performers and has solidified her place as one of the most powerful figures in the music industry.
Unfortunately, the respect we have for Nicki was violated by this post that should never have been written. The post does not reflect how we feel about Nicki. And further does not reflect our company values. We deeply apologize for the hurt, disappointment and confusion that this post has caused. We are committed to doing everything we can to address the situation.
We are also conducting an internal audit to assure these types of posts are not published again. We have apologized to Nicki and her team. The post has been removed and we have taken additional appropriate action. We understand Nicki’s position and look forward to continuing our dialogue with her.
Finally, we apologize to all of her fans. This should have never happened.”
As of now, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne are still appearing as talent for the festival but there is a disclaimer at the bottom saying “*talent subject to change.”
