In a surprising reveal, Beyonce’s father Matthew Knowles appeared in a preview of an interview with Michael Strahan online today debuting tomorrow on Good Morning America sharing that he has been diagnosed with breast cancer. In the preview, you can hear Strahan asking, “How was it to tell your family about the diagnosis?” While we won’t know the answer until tomorrow, we do know that Knowles is still close to his daughters Beyonce, Solange and his ex-wife Tina, who he divorced after 30 years of marriage. When Beyonce first dropped her father as her manager in 2011, she made it clear that their personal relationship would still remain in tact. At the time, she said, “I’ve only parted ways with my father on a business level. He is my father for life, and I love my dad dearly.”

Only 1 in 1,000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer but the good news is that it’s easier to detect on men since they have less breast tissue. This reveal comes during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. explains that “Male breast cancer is very rare. Less than one percent of all breast cancer cases develop in men, and only one in a thousand men will ever be diagnosed with breast cancer.”

The 67 year old might not be managing his daughter anymore but he’s still working. Just this July he signed on as signed on as Chief Marketing Officer of a hub for marijuana dispensaries, Bangi Inc. ā€œIā€™m a marketing guy. I like to think outside of the box,” he told The Post about his new position. “I like to be on the beginning of a trend and not at the end of it.ā€ And he’s right about that. He’s respected for his marketing work. He even has his own business school, The Matthew Knowles Institute. This Good Morning America interview Knowles is doing is something we’re not used to seeing in his family, willingness to be open about what’s going on in their personal lives. Beyonce has been sharing more lately although an interview from her beyond rare. She usually saves all her thoughts for projects she gets distribution deals on. That has her dad’s marketing skills written all over it.
