Cardi B is one of many artists who refused to perform at the Super Bowl in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and the kneeling crew out there. There were, however, rumors of the possibility of her performing alongside Maroon 5 who’s doing the halftime show since they recorded the song Girls Like You together.
She shut all of that talk down on Friday in an Entertainment Tonight interview. saying “It wouldn’t be the perfect time,” she said. “I stand on what I stand. I am doing other things, because, you know, they like to make money out of us. Why not make a little money out of them? I just can’t push my limits. My soul wouldn’t feel right.” Still, she expressed excitement for performing with Maroon 5 in the future, adding, “I know me and Maroon 5 have a lot of performances coming. That song just means so much to me.”
She also spoke to the Associated Press saying she had “mixed feelings” about it all before declining. “My husband, he loves football,” she said, referring to rapper Offset. “His kids play football. It’s really hard for him. He really wants to go to the Super Bowl, but he can’t go to the Super Bowl, because he’s got to stand for something.” She said she feels she owes it to Kaepernick to not perform with the sacrifice he’s made of his career for his cause. “I got to sacrifice a lot of money to perform. But there’s a man who sacrificed his job for us, so we got to stand behind him.”
And speaking of her husband, Offset, the two split up two months ago after yet another instance of him cheating became public. The two were seen out together at The Big Game Weekend Party at Oak Nightclub in Atlanta two days before the Super Bowl. She gave fans an update on their relationship saying they were “working things out.” A source has stated she hasn’t filed for divorce so it seems theirs hope for them just yet. And if you haven’t seen it, she had quite the nasty Instagram Live chat the other day about what she missed Offset doing to her.
“My gag reflexes are leaving cause I haven’t sucked dick in such a long time “ Cardi begins. “I miss it…a lot,” she says between sips of coffee number too-many, “I want it…in my throat…inside of me…demolishing me…destroying me.” Well, alrighty then.
And for those who thought Cardi might still be performing at the Super Bowl, it’s a little amazing to see so many question whether Cardi B would perform after she clearly said she wasn’t going to do it. If there’s anything those of us who have been following her for some time know about Cardi B, it’s that when she says she’s going to do something, she does it, whether it’s success in the industry or beating someone up. When she makes it clear that she’s set her mind on something, it happens, so take note, journalists out there.
Adam Levine defended his group’s decision to perform on January 31st telling ET, “I am not in the right profession if I can’t handle a bit of controversy. It is what it is. We expected it. We would like to move on from it and speak through the music.” They’ll be joined by rapper Travis Scott and rapper Big Boi from Outkast… but no Cardi B. In an interesting twist, she will, however be performing at the Bud Light Super Bowl Festival the day before the Super Bowl and is appearing in a Pepsi commercial. We’re going to ignore the irony in that for now…
