Former Bachelor star Colton Underwood shocked fans with his coming out of the closet last month. And while motives behind doing such is always debatable, the ability to be oneself should always be celebrated. At least he was able to make this decision now instead of decades later like Caitlyn Jenner. That absolutely had to have been torture. But back to Underwood. He’s now on the cover of Variety Magazine and is speaking about the reasoning behind his coming out.
“I’ll just say it. I, at one point, during my rock bottom and spiral, was getting blackmailed,” he told the publication. “Nobody knows I was blackmailed.” He says he visited a gay spa in L.A. just to look around he says and had someone sneak some nude photos of him that they threatened to blackmail him with. Without ever seeing the pics, he confided in his publicist saying he knew they wouldn’t betray him. He also said he knew he “should have never been there.”
So that’s an interesting bit of information. Do people who just want to look as he says, get completely naked in any establishment? People always admit to less than what they actually have done so there’s likely a little more to the story. But we understand. He’s likely under the gun and who knows what the real story behind him being there is. And after all, he’s 29 years old. He’s got about another year before he has to be a responsible adult. If he decided to have some extra fun, given the fact that we’ve just about fully accepted prostitution in the mainstream of life with OnlyFans, if he ends up on the internet in some compromising position, I promise, no one will care.
At the same time he came out, it was announced he would have a Netflix series about him coming out, which he did give some additional info on. The network was apparently working on a show with him and his ex Cassie Randolph about life after their breakup but after reports of him harrassing her came about, it was scrapped. But after hearing of his coming out, they had an idea for a new show about him. Do you know what we would like to see on this show? His father should talk about the gay porn of his he found as a child. Oh yes. He said his dad found porn on their computer when he was in high school and he just said he was curious. That would be a juicy thing to see family talk about.
Netflix’s vice-president of unscripted series Brandon Riegg said “the show will help challenge outdated notions of what kind of stories can or should be at the center of entertainment.” Riegg added that “others can learn from” Underwood’s “complicated story,” saying, “We trust Colton and the producers to address it in a thoughtful way.” Footage of him coming out to friends and family is also said to be on the show.
We’re happy for where Underwood is today and this blackmail threat isn’t something he should worry about. We do wonder, though, is this some planned nude or sex tape leak that he’s prepping us all for that will come out in the middle of this docu-series? Is there a Kris Jenner in the background pulling puppet strings to make him the next gay Kardashian? One can only speculate.
