By the time the second season of Cartel Crew was announced, a preview of El Chapo’s wife Emma Coronel Aispuro riding in on a boat to be on the show started airing. She gave the explanation that she was innocent. Now, our immediate reaction was that no one is married to a man that has done the types of things that El Chapo has, the world’s most known drug dealer at the moment and have no type of involvement or at least knowledge. It is the epitome of aloofness. But she was about 29 at the time and why not go out with a bang? you have to live before that inevitable knock on the door comes and the cell door closes, right?
Well Aispuro appeared in federal district court in Washington, DC today pleading guilty to 3 charges, including money laundering and conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana. She’s facing possible life in prison and the drug trafficking charge has a minimum sentence of a decade behind bars alone. She was arrested at Dulles airport right outside of DC in February where the feds charged her with conspiracy to distribute 5 kilos or more of cocaine, 1 kilo of heroin, 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and 1,000 kilos or more of marijuana for importation into the U.S.
“She is very happy to put this behind her,” Coronel Aispuro’s attorney, Jeffrey Lichtman, said outside the courthouse “She didn’t expect to get arrested after her husband received life in prison, so this is obviously a troubling time. But we’re going to get past it.”
As a former beauty queen, there is so much she could have done in life besides this. She met El Chapo when she was 17 and he was 49. It’s essentially been a wrap since and now some nearly 15 years later, it’s a wrap again. She helped him with the empire that put him on the Forbes list of world’s richest men in 2009 and today it’s all come crashing down. We’ll be reporting more on this as details continue to unfols.
