Today’s eye candy choice is 26 year old wrestling Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs. He was a winner at the 2012 Olympic summer wrestling games in London, defeating Sadegh Goudarzi of Iran as well as being a gold medal winner at the 2013 World Cup. He began wrestling at the age of 5 and says he enjoys the sport, known to be 6 minutes of physical torture saying, “You’re pitted one man against another man. Basically, whoever imposes his will on the other wins.” His success he credits to his hard work. “It’s easy to be confident when you put the hard work in that I do.” U.S. freestyle coach Zeke Jones calls him “one of the greatest wrestlers ever” and should be the face of American freestyle wrestling.
If you’re interested in getting a body like Burroughs, he says his favorite foods are wings and pizza. This of course isn’t what he eats when training. They’re merely a treat after a hard week of training, to include 7 days of 8 hour training sessions. Clearly that body isn’t just inherited. He says he eats 3 large meals a day with lots of pasta, rice, spaghetti for carbohydrates and for protein lots of meat, usually chicken, beef, turkey.
His workout includes a “gruesome” pull up routine which is where his amazing upper body strength comes from. To get to his size, lifting your own weight won’t cut it. He says he attaches 50 pound weights to his belt while performing them. Old school rope climbs also are an integral part of his work out. Burroughs is able to get to the top of an Olympic length rope in 6 seconds. That’s pretty impressive considering it took most of us 5-10 minutes in high school.
