While Kaepernick is fighting for equality, you have players like Joe Horn formerly with the Saints busy scamming the league’s retirement healthcare plan, literally stealing from everyone else causing more inequality. He defrauded a whopping $150,000 from the Gene Upshaw NFL Player Health Reimbursement Account Plan. But he wasn’t the only one. Others included Clinton Portis. Yes, Clinton Portis… the man who signed a $50 million deal 15 years ago with a $17 million signing bonus that just filed bankruptcy 2 years ago with $5 million in debt. It’s also no surprise as to why Portis’ amount he defrauded was $4 million. Guess he felt going for the whole amount might be a little too obvious. He turned himself in a week ago.

While Portis as already turned himself in, Horn agreed to plead guilty yesterday to one charge of conspiracy to commit health care fraud. It mostly stemmed from high priced healthcare equipment he needed reimbursement for that he apparently forgot to actually buy… a requirement for reimbursement. And although he entered into a plea deal to avoid a harsh sentence, he still has to pay the $149,775 he racked up in false claims.

This is all unfortunate given how he’s known as the greatest wide receiver in the Saints’ history. Seeing him go out this way’s sad to watch. Up until now, the biggest scandal he had was getting reprimanded for having a cell phone stashed under the goal post padding in ’03 after making his second touchdown where he pretended to make a call to celebrate. It resulted in a 15 yard penalty and his coach at the time said he did it because he was 32 and young. Now you know you have to be good at what you do for anyone to excuse you being young while in your 30s. I’m just one year older than he was at the time and even I know better than that but hey… he’s the NFL player and not me. As for this healthcare scam, he’d better hope he doesn’t get the book thrown at him.
