Frank Ocean lost his youngest brother last year and his mother has been taking it pretty hard. His brother, Ryan Breaux died in a car crash in August 2020 along with another victim in the car, his 20 year old classmate Ezekial Bishop. Breaux appeared on Ocean’s 2016 album Blonde on the track Futura Free. Their mother said Breaux was Ocean’s biggest fan and would have his songs “on repeat 50 times a day.”

Ocean’s mother told Billboard in the past that the two were especially close saying, “It’s interesting because I’m a different mom to Ryan than I was with Chris [Frank Ocean]. I was young—I was 21 when I had ChrisI would just say to treat them as humans and to understand. When we get caught up in the moment, we want them to hurry and sit up, or hurry up and talk, but the time goes by so fast so you really want to savor every moment. I know it sounds so trite, but it takes having a child and then having them become an adult to really realize how quickly it goes by,” she added.

But when it comes to Christmas this year, Ocean’s mother Katonya Breaux said that she didn’t want any holiday texts because it triggers her all over again. For those who don’t know, when her son died in that crash, the car literally split in two and ended in fire so all those texts at once could seem too similar to her getting all the condolence messages from last year.

She posted on Instagram “I’m so grateful for the people that love me. So incredibly grateful. I just have one request. Please, refrain from texting or messaging me any Merry this or Happy that messages. Maybe next year, but not this year. I know you want to show love but when I look at my phone and see 50 messages like this, it’s just more triggering than helpful. So instead, send love through the universes. “I’ll feel it. I promise. Thank you in advance [praying hands emoji][blue heart emoji].”

We wish her the best this holiday and pray that she’ll be able to enjoy it in spite of being one son less.
