Anthony Anderson is the Creator of Anacostia: The Series, a black soap opera taking place in the nation’s capitol in the Southeast Washington neighborhood of Anacostia. Being that I’ve been friends with Anderson for some time, are fans of the show with Anacostia being one of my favorite neighborhoods, it only made sense to have a sit down with him.

Growing up on Anacostia’s Stanton Road to memories of Marion Barry were discussed to the all star cast he has on the show. Some of you may remember William Lash as Onix on I Love New York, Mary Martha Byrne from As the World Turns, Jennifer Bassey from All My Children among others. His Emmy nominated performances were discussed like the topic of male rape playing out on camera, something that we certainly don’t see discussed either in the media or much less a soap opera.

And if you can’t get enough of Anderson’s work, he will be debuting a new reality show, The City: DC, about a group of openly gay men in the nation’s capitol. It will be out Memorial Day weekend, just in time for DC’s Black Gay Pride. The platform will be announced closer to the date.
