Grizzlies player Ja Morant is currently being sued for not being a good sport after a game of pick up basketball at his home in Tennessee. Apparently a verbal altercation broke out July 26th leading to the plaintiff, a 17 year old being knocked out. Court documents state that the teenager “accidentally” hit him in the face with a basketball, leading Morant to ask a bystander, “Should I do it to him?” and then hit him “with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground.” He also claims he “continued sticking him while on the ground” and was even joined by another man who started hitting him as well.
Morant in turn claims the teen hit him “intentionally” and then “began to approach him as if he wanted to fight.” And if that’s the case, the “large knot” that police said he had on his head likely was deserved. Police did state that Morant told them his brother was involved in the altercation but didn’t state his name. That’s likely the second person that jumped in to help beat the teenager up was. Morant also told police the teen “made verbal threats stating he’d ‘light his house up'” while being escorted from the property. Morant “advised he and his family were put in fear by the statement.”

After several weeks of investigations by police, they submitted the case to the District Attorney who less than a month later declined to prosecute. Morant’s childhood friend Davonte Pack is listed in the suit as well. As of yet, what has been requested by the teenager isn’t yet clear. As the tenth leading scorer in the NBA right now expected to be this year’s MVP, let’s just hope he doesn’t derail himself with a series of physical altercations like this. Hopefully this was just a one-off and that he indeed was defending himself.
