Joey Badass appeared in a Revolt interview recently where he said he would like to play the late MC Big L in a biopic since he resembles him so much. And he’s added that he wants to highlight his story, one that ended in him being murdered in 1999 that’s been named one of Time Magazine’s top 10 unsolved hip hop murders. One of the only issues that could occur with this was brought up by Brian Shafton, partner at RBC Records which owns a lot of Big L’s masters, in a convo with TMZ saying that so much of his music involves samples, the legal process of getting clearance would be a nightmare.

The benefit of Joey Badass playing Big L is raising the late rapper’s legacy and will piggyback on the success of his 2020 Oscar award winning role in Two Distant Strangers, a Netflix hit. And Big L is no one to sleep on. Nas is said to have been terrified when he heard Big L perform saying that there was no way he could compete with him. And it’s worth noting that when he passed, Nas, nor Jay-Z were the superstars we know them as today and things would have likely been much different if he were still around today.

As for the meantime while the possibility of Big L biopic with Joey Badass is discussed, Joey is still playing Unique in 50 Cent’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan. He also just finished his 20 date summer tour and has been described by Rolling Stone as being someone you want to root for even when he doesn’t know what to do with his talent.
