Known for her red carpet statements, Trump supporting singer Joy Villa appeared on the red carpet of the Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon directed film Unplanned finding a way to steal the show with her attire yet again. Dressed in a hot pink latex dress saying F*ck Planned Parenthood, designed by Desi Allinger of Desi Designs Couture, it’s hard to be confused about her message, that’s for sure. But this isn’t her first time wearing pro-life attire. At the Grammys last year, her purse was painted with Choose Life and her dress was covered in a sonogram of her daughter. She gave her daughter up at 20 for adoption instead of aborting her showing this is a personal message for her. She shared her story on Mornings with Maria on Fox Business leading to it being picked up by Variety, MTV and People Magazine.
“I have chosen to platform to encourage women to think for themselves and gather all the information before making their own decision. Having life-giving options like adoption can empower women to do what they feel is right,” she said while on the show. “There are thousands of women in similar situations to mine. Many are far younger – and more vulnerable than I was. I’m not here to condemn them, or call them names, or try to make them feel worse than they already do.” She also appeared at the 2019 March for Life, singing at the Susan B Anthony gala and serving as keynote speaker for Ralph Reed’s 2018 “Faith and Freedom: Road to Majority” event sharing her “adoption over abortion” message.
If Joy Villa seems familiar, it’s because she made major headlines when President Trump took office wearing a Make America Great Again dress. If we were to take a guess, we would assume she was voting for Trump in the 2016 election. This year at the Grammys she wore a dress with the message Build the Wall on it, full with bricks drawn on her dress and spikes on top of her head. Yes, that actually happened. And even before that, Villa made headlines every year at the Grammys for something insane she wore, including a dress made almost exclusively from what appeared to be the plastic holding 6 pack cans of soda together leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination. In fact, her attire is exactly what’s made some want to change red carpet dress codes given the amount of skin she used to show. These days she’s gone from super insanely revealing dresses to turning herself into a political billboard.
While her red carpet choices annoy some and others simply call them publicity stunts, they’ve actually paid off. Her first EP I Make the Static came out in 2017 and hit #1 on the Billboard Rock and Alternative Charts and #12 on the Billboard Hot 200 Charts. Then when she came out as a Trump supporter, it went up to #1 on both iTunes and Amazon Music almost overnight.
She met the former Planned Parenthood employer and activist the film Unplanned was created about, Abby Johnson at the Trump Hotel in DC at the Save the Storks pro-life charity ball. “We just clicked instantly. Her work on the pro-life front is absolutely legendary. This film will heal and educate millions. It is a must-see, no matter what your stance on abortion is.”
The film Unplanned has baffled some as to why it’s Rated R when there are films showing gratuitous sex and violence with a PG 13 rating. Co-director believes it has to do with it landing on party lines. “We made a pro-life movie in a pro-choice town,” he told Gosnell, Hollywood seems intent on doing everything it can to limit the impact of their message. It’s so hypocritical, fumed Unplanned author Cary Solomon. “The standard used to rate our movie is being applied inconsistently as it relates to bloody images on-screen,” he said. “In fact, Happy Death Day 2U (a “slasher” film with several violent murder scenes) has far more blood and gore than our film, and it received a PG-13 rating.”” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>Breitbart. Just as the film industry did with Gosnell, Hollywood seems intent on doing everything it can to limit the impact of their message. It’s so hypocritical, fumed Unplanned author Cary Solomon.
“The standard used to rate our movie is being applied inconsistently as it relates to bloody images on-screen,” he said. “In fact, Happy Death Day 2U (a “slasher” film with several violent murder scenes) has far more blood and gore than our film, and it received a PG-13 rating.” He’s concerned about the rating keeping people from watching the film and published an open letter addressing the matter saying “[We] are urging our fellow citizens to, just as they did with The Passion of the Christ, ignore the MPAA’s Restricted rating and watch the film anyway when it is released in theaters March 29th.”
Who decides what’s appropriate for your family to watch, we ask? “Is it a group of unelected parents from Beverly Hills who meet together, watch a film and vote, and ultimately decide for you what is appropriate for your family and what’s not? Or is it you, your family, your pastor or priest, and other leaders you respect? Let’s not project the values of the 90210 zip code upon the rest of America.”
The film Unplanned will be in theaters March 29th.
