The Jussie Smollett saga has continued with him being secretly recorded while on vacation in Hawaii desperately trying to convince someone of his innocence. Pacing back and forth in the parking lot he can be seen repeatedly telling someone “I did not do any of this. The charges were dropped.” He went on saying “You have to believe me,” and throughout it all, he kept referring to the person on the phone as Ryan. His family was seen dining nearby in a restaurant there while he was outside wearing all black and all white sneakers.
Seemingly unaware he was being recorded, he was clearly still trying to salvage his reputation after his national #JussieSmollettHoax scandal dominated the news for months. And it isn’t even over yet because the letter with a powdered substance mailed to the Fox studios where Empire is filmed is still sitting in an FBI crime lab where it’s being determined whether he sent the letter himself. If so, that’s at least a felony charge of mail fraud. Just last week he was seen laughing and smiling with his family while out on vacation, which he caught flack for as it appears to be yet another middle finger to the criminal justice system.
And he isn’t the only one under criticism for his case as the Cook County prosecutor who dropped the 16 charges against him, letting him go with just a few hours of community service and forfeiting his $10,000 bond, Kim Foxx has responded to calls for her to step down by saying she welcomes an independent investigation into her office. The city of Chicago has sued him for the $130,000 it cost to conduct his investigation that the city asked him for that he’s refused to pay. And we have to note that for all the money he paid those Nigerian brothers to train him, he sure seems to need a trainer and probably more than before all of this started. Stress eating, much? He’s also losing roles despite having all 16 charges dropped against him. He was being considered for the lead part in the upcoming Broadway revival of Take Me Out. He did his reading for the part just 12 hours before his alleged attack took part. This isn’t a good sign for his future prospects, but we’ll be staying on this case as more details develop.
