It isn’t any surprise that former President Trump would meet with a white nationalist, but being brought by Kanye West to said meeting is interesting to say the least. Nick Fuentes, who has made comparisons of Jews to cookies in ovens denying the holocaust ever existed were seen this week at LAX going to Miami. Kanye had already said earlier in the week he was going to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate as well tweeting, “First time at Mar-a-Lago. Rain and traffic. Can’t believe I kept President Trump waiting. And I had on jeans. Yikes. What you guys think his response was when I asked him to be my running mate in 2024?”
Yes, Kanye is running for President again. In case you missed it, he made his announcement by video Thursday that he would be entering the presidential race in 2024. But just how will he be surviving campaigning when already within days of him announcing, he has an avowed white nationalist on his side? Nick Fuentes has been banned from Twitter, Twitch and Reddit for his views and was even placed on a No Fly list briefly after January 6th. After the Unite the Right rally in 2017 that Trump struggled to denounce, Fuentes spoke positively about “a tidal wave of white identity.” He’s referenced those who call him a white supremacist saying that’s an “anti-white slur.” I’ll add that this is a cover for a lot of racist rhetoric because that’s a common comeback to include hiding under partisan politics with people saying they’re just being attacked for how they vote.
Trump’s camp and Republicans have been scrambling to whitesplain what happened at this meeting or how the meeting came about with one longtime Trump advisor calling the meeting, “a f—ing nightmare.” They spoke on a condition of anonymity out of fear of Trump accusing them of being “disloyal. “If people are looking at [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis to run against Trump, here’s another reason why.” Kanye has commented in a video debrief of the meeting saying, “Trump is really impressed with Nick Fuentes. Nick Fuentes — unlike so many of the lawyers and so many people that he was left with on his 2020 campaign — he’s actually a loyalist [for Trump].” Trump’s recollection of the meeting is different with him saying he didn’t know who Fuentes was which makes no sense because what executive is going to end up in a meeting with someone they don’t know without some type of a briefing prior? That makes no sense and if that’s true, it shows what type of a reckless leader and businessman Trump is. But we already knew that.
In the end, this meeting isn’t going to sway the GOP much as they have been by his side through all of his nonsense. It’ll likely be excused as Trump thinking he was just a statician and the party members that are sick of him will just say it’s time to move on without acknowledging either any of his behavior or their part in contributing to it.
