Season 17 of The Voice is almost upon us and Kelly Clarkson announced today that Normani would be serving as her adviser on the show. And the announcement was done in the most hilarious way. There’s a part of her Normani’s Motivation music video that’s completely underrated where she bounces a basketball off the ground, it bounces off of her knee and ricochets from her backside knocking a guy out trying to holler at her. Seeing Clarkson attempt it and how much effort it took, one wonders if that was some sort of trick ball Normani used or something. After about 3 tries later, a sore Clarkson approached the camera, barely able to contain her laughter saying how talented Normani is and that she was quite helpful on the show.

“Mine looked a little different, but that’s fine. “She kills it, y’all! I cannot wait for you to see this season. She was so helpful, she’s such a sweetie. Sorry I butchered your cool thing from your video,” she added, laughing.

But we know that that dance move didn’t occur in just one take. Backstage at the MTV Video Music Awards, talking about what went into putting her performance together, she said, “Oh my goodness, people don’t have any idea!” she explained. “It’s three minutes I’m up there on stage, but they don’t have the slightest idea of the hard work, blood, sweat, tears — I literally have bruises on my knees [from] however many times I did that split.” She went on to say it “really does take a village,” shouting out her choreographer Sean Bankhead. “[He] is incredible. He pushes me to the fullest of my capacity,” she shared. “I swear that man thinks I can do anything and everything. I’m like, ‘You really think that?’ And he’s like, ‘Because you can!'” She thanked her dancers as well saying, “They kept me energized on the stage. Kept me confident.”

You can catch Kelly Clarkson and now Normani on The Voice starting September 23rd.
