Kimora Lee Simmons and her ex are currently in the middle of a custody battle airing out in public with her ex, actor and model Djimon Hounsou who’s allegedly threatening to run off with their child to Africa. Simmons was stopped while walking down the street in L.A. to be served with papers from Hounsou regarding a custody suit over their 10 year old son Kenzo. This stems from him telling the paparazzi recently he didn’t know when he last saw his son and that he had a lonely father’s day. Team Kimora has said he’s had plenty of opportunity to do so and has neglected to follow through any of the offers she’s made him to visit during holidays and other get togethers.
Russell Simmons not long ago asked Hounsou to sign a letter stating he could take the child for visits but only if he promised not to carry him out of the country. He refused which has caused suspicion among Kimora’s camp that he’s planning to take the child to Africa. One interesting part in this is that the two were never legally married despite her referring to him as her husband on her show Kimora’s Life in the Fab Lane from about a decade ago. They did, however have a commitment ceremony in his homeland of Benin around that same time.
Now for those who remember the show, Miss Simmons drives a hard bargain and engaging in a legal war with her is not for the faint of heart. (By the way, we miss her on reality television desperately. She’s something else.) And it’s that something else that’s going to give Hounsou a run for his money if he thinks he’s taking that child out of the country. Also, mothers tend to be favored in custody cases so we’re inclined to think she’s going to win this but we shall see.
