One of the long joked about things regarding the Kardashians is that there is some curse where all black men that get entangled in their web ends up going crazy. Now this is one of those things where there is the evidence of what I’m looking at and what I’m told. At the end of the day, their personal lives on what is highly dramatized reality television is simply none of my business. And what I do know is that anyone who chooses to put their life on camera in an environment with millions of dollars at stake, you’d better be able to take it. And if one of those participants, Lamar Odom says there is no curse, then I have no choice but to take his word for it. So let’s analyze, shall we?
In a VladTV sit down, Odom said about those who perpetuate this conspiracy theory, “that’s stupidity,” adding, “Because everybody goes through s–t, you dumba–es.” He continued saying, “If I had your family on tape, and see all the s–t your family was going through, people would be like, ‘This f—ing family is crazy!’ People would see all the drug addicts, all the sex, they share their life with you, so you see everything.”
And he’s right. People want fame and not the other side of it. If you take this a step further, look at the Kardashians, themselves. They’re the ones who are being paid to come out on top in the end of it all. It’s debatable about whether the money is worth it. Kourtney Kardashian almost appears to have an eating disorder from her bizarre eating habits, Kim Kardashian seems to be on mood stabilizers and Khloe Kardashian took all of the fan bullying to heart as she looks like a completely different person now. They all do. So what being in the spotlight did to their personal lives and whether they even won in the end. 🤷♂️
Odom pointed out the positive aspect of his involvement in the family saying, “I know in some ways it’s the reason why I’m still relevant to this day,” he admitted. Adding, “‘Cause I’m not playing ball no more. Ain’t no more highlights on me no more.” He continued, “The looks that I still get is due to — a lot of it is because of the love that they gave me … And f–k anybody that goes against that.”
He admits the part he played in his relationship with Khloe, who he was married to from 2009 to 2016 saying, “I couldn’t believe how I was treating that queen.”
And regarding his behavior afterwards, he talked about how Kobe Bryant came to his aid not long before passing. “I had been gambling. It got a little too steep for where I was at at that time,” Odom recalled. Adding, “It was getting tight. And if you in a bad situation, especially about some money, [Kobe] ain’t the one that you gonna wanna call.” But, Lamara admitted, “I gathered up the strength. I put my pride to the side…And I gave him a call.”
If you look at Odom’s life, he left the NBA and we know that athletes don’t always transition well into regular life. That’s where he was and it’s something to debate on whether that is the source of his problems or not. Another is that the Kardashians have been a cultural phenomenon. Unlike their predecessor Paris Hilton who was one person sucking up the media, they’re an entire family which allows for several storylines and for them to have been in the media approximately 15 years, that’s over a decade of marriages, divorces, children… a lot can happen in that time frame. It’s moreso as he said, just the fact that it all played out in front of us. They’re likely not as diabolical as people would have you to think.
