R&B singer Lil Mo just did an interview with her longtime friend DJ Quiksilver opening up about what life’s been like lately and most importantly going into detail about breaking up with her now 3rd ex-husband, boxer Karl Dargan. To sum things up, her friend of 20 years, Woo, a producer she’s recently connected with while working on escaping her house to get away from her husband, she said he told her that he had heard from behind bars how she and Dargan were out acting like Bobby and Whitney in the streets. She had been spending $400 a day on drugs to the point she was spending bill money to get high as just a way to numb herself from having to deal with things. For almost the entire interview, my hand was over my mouth in shock that these things were happening and how freely she spoke about it. You could tell that this was therapeutic, seeing her speak to her old friend, catching up and just to get everything out.
Mo has always been outspoken. I’ll never forget the time she did radio after I believe her first season on R&B Divas where she said her and her last husband, Philip Bryant had threesomes and she could tell he had been with one girl before because when he went inside of her she didn’t flinch and you always flinch during the first time which says they were comfortable with each other, and she said, “Aha! You’ve been cheating!” I’ve never heard anything like that on radio before or even since. But that’s Mo. She’s honest. And when she released the No Sh*t Sherlock, I remember literally sitting up in bed shocked hearing her roasting Bryant and then going on rapping about poppin’ perks. It was a great mixtape and I essentially just brushed it off as lyrics and her talking trash but kept my ear raised.
But back to her last relationship.. towards the end, Dargan was throwing hot coffee, hot tea at her, throwing and breaking iPhones, punching holes in walls, all in front of her children. She jumped out of the car on the freeway once to call Quiksilva saying she thought her jaw might be dislocated once. And throughout it all the time, he kept saying that this is not the Lil Mo he knew. He was asking if she really loved this guy this much to be acting the way she was. Even as a passive follower, she seemed to be acting a little strange, but given her career’s taken off in the last few years, I assumed it was just her doing some partying, possibly a little overindulging but that she would get it together eventually. I distinctly remember her stark naked from the back on Instagram looking out of the window of a hotel room in Dubai and saying, “ok, these two are just a little out of control.”
And of course, there’s all of the years of press reports of her husband cheating. She approached him once about a girl that she had evidence he had been either messing with or just talking to that was 17. And that she specifically referred to as a spirit. She said they had been through every type of relationship counseling, every possible show to discuss their issues and she asked herself why did she keep doing it to herself because she already knew the answer to these things. Production of Love & Hip Hop: New York had a ton of extra info on her husband that was left out of final production out of fairness to her because it was just that heavy. When she last appeared on The Breakfast Club with Dargan, a lot of that was edited out because of how she was acting then at the time as well. But it was the moment he spit on her that caused her to want to leave. And Quicksilva said just seeing her come off of the elevator had him say how happy she looked and that he didn’t remember when she last looked like that.
In the end, Quicksilva said at this point he didn’t want to see her get married again because after 3 marriages that he’s been by her side through, he didn’t think he could take another. I remember an interview of her saying she considered herself the Black Elizabeth Taylor and would get married 10 times to find he right one if she had to. So we’re going to see who wins that battle.
