Rapper Lizzo is a new artist but proved that she could hang with the best of them last night at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. Giving a stellar performance paying homage to Sister Act before transitioning into her hit Juice. She even did some of the parts to Lauryn Hill’s Joyful Joyful. She’s known for her ability to play the flute alongside her singing and dancing and while there was no flute playing, she still put on an amazing show. If you weren’t aware that she was a new artist, you would swear she’s been doing this and at the top of the industry. And she’s doing that as a big girl, which is another reason we love her so much.
Lizzo is unapologetically herself which is why she’s had the success she’s been having. It’s also why she has the trademark “100% that b*tch,” a line from her song, Truth Hurts where she says, “I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100% that bitch.” And to say she just released her first album this year, she’s certainly blessed to say that already she’s worked with Charli XCX, Missy Elliott and has worked with Prince in the past. Just last week she performed a tribute to Missy at the Songwriters Hall of Fame dinner where Missy was inducted as the first female rapper in history to get the prestigious honor.
