Lizzo hasn’t been on Saturday Night Live since last being there in 2019 but is makign a triumphant return in April for what is being billed as “Lizzo-palooza.” Taking place April 16th, she will be both the musical guest as well as hosting. And it’s no question that she’s going to knock it out of the park as there’s few times Lizzo isn’t entertaining. Whether the viewer likes her or not, it’s clear she’s entertaining someone.
Other performers for next month were announced including Gunna and Camila Cabello where Gunna’s album DS4Ever recently topped the Billboard 200 who’s appearing on the April 2nd episode and Cabello who just announced her album Familia will be out on April 8th. And Jake Gyllenhaall’s going to be hosting for the first time in 15 years. As for Lizzo pulling double duty, she’s joining the elite group of other celebrities who’ve done the the same to include Dolly Parton, Mick Jagger, Garth Brooks, Sting, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Drake and Harry Styles.
And if you’re wondering what brings Lizzo back on, well she now has her own reality series on Amazon. Debuting on Friday, the day before SNL is her new show called Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. Described as a competitive dance series where she’s looking for plus sized backup dancers for an upcoming world tour, she said in the trailer “Girls that look like me don’t get representation. Time to pull up my sleeves and find them myself.”
Her new show has 8 episodes that were shot in the Twin Cities, around where she’s from and she’s the executive producer. This is the result of her signing an Amazon deal in 2020 to do a number of projects with them. And you’d better believe we’ll be tuned in to watch.
Another show that’s similar is Mysterious from Making the Band aka Misty Blanco’s reality show called The Blaque Okane Rockfest where she is looking for opening acts for an 8 state tour currently streaming on The Misty TV channel on Roku.
