Mariah Carey performed Oh Santa on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night. The song comes from her 2010 album Merry Christmas II You, her second Christmas album. It’s hard to believe it’s already been almost a decade since the album came out because she floored both fans and critics at the time asking why the hell would she make another Christmas album and risk breaking the formula of practically being known as Miss Christmas. We all know she already tops the charts every holiday season as evidenced by every store you walk into since forever.

But Mariah made some quite surprising news lately which was her famous holiday single All I Want for Christmas is You just became her 19th #1 single. The thing is that the song came out 25 years ago. That’s quite an impressive feat. She even was a part of an Empire State Building lighting ceremony where the lights were synced to the notes of her smash holiday hit. “Each year, the Empire State Building partners with iHeartRadio to celebrate the holiday season with a spectacular LED music-to light show,” said Jean-Yves Ghazi, the President of the Empire State Building observatory, said by way of Carey’s introduction. “This year, we’re delighted to be syncing our tower of lights and counting down to Christmas with this holiday classic that’s also celebrating reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 on its 25th anniversary.”

When we heard about the song hitting Number One, all I could think about was a pundit who chose to not be named that despised the song so much that they walk out of stores just from hearing the intro. With the song hitting Number One after all these years, she might not want to leave the house until next year now. And if it’s more Mariah you’re looking for, she just released a mini-documentary on Amazon titled, Mariah Carey Is Christmas: The Story Of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You. As for said pundit, maybe we can suggest Dionne Warwick’s new Christmas album? Destiny’s Child’s from about 18 or so years ago is still an R&B classic.
