It’s been about a year and a half since Jay-Z’ announcement being involved with the NFL and a little over 6 months since the league stated they would be spending $250 million to combat systemic racism so it’s about time we should be seeing some results, right? Well the NFL aired a Super Bowl ad from their Inspire Change campaign with footage of people protesting, athletes kneeling, etc. There’s just one thing… a bit of an elephant in the room of sorts. Wasn’t a significant amount of this because of the NFL not supporting people doing literally ALL of these things?

Shortly after this ad aired, Mariah Carey posted a short tweet as a response saying, “Happy Colin Kaepernick Appreciation Day!” It took the country being on fire to understand that the act of kneeling was quite an harmless act. I’m not going to delve into this too much here becasue It’s been 4 long years of disinformation on the topic. We’re not North Korea so forced patriotism should never be a thing here. If this were grade school, I could possibly see it.

Adults have the right to express their thoughts on the country as they see fit and the act of saying it should be done or else in and of itself is unAmerican. But that isn’t here or nor there. We see the people who were arguing against an act of freedom of speech have both lost a presidential election, are being deplatformed and some going to jail for what they considered their own self-expression at the Capitol so… Maybe now we can actually address police abuse since we’ve determined that kneeling wasn’t so bad after all.

And let us not forget about Janet Jackson. We can thank Mariah for reminding us what happened to her career and how the NFL stood by and let her be demonized while the culprit Justin Timberlake’s career took off.
