For those who haven’t heard Drake’s new album Certified Lover Boy, he declared himself bigger than Michael Jackson. Pause for one second. Michael has been the subject of impersonators for decades. Have we seen a Drake impersonator yet? Well, we’re not going to litigate this issue but we’ll let Michael’s son Prince Michael do that for us.
The lyrics in question come from the song You Only Live Twice said, “Not sure if you know but I’m actually Michael Jackson,” Drake raps on the song. “The man I see in the mirror is actually goin’ platinum.”
As for whether Prince agrees with this sentiment or not, he said, “I mean everybody has their own definition of great, and all respect to Drake everything that he does,” Prince said in response to the question from TooFab. “But what my father and my family accomplished, in the time that they did it, is very unlikely never to be matched again.”
While Prince may have his opinion, Drake still has his aspirations high and does hold respect for the late singer as he used posthumous vocals of his on his 2018 album Scorpion in the track Don’t Matter to Me. And we’re going to have to agree with Michael’s son. It’s great to have dreams but he’s not there just yet.
