There were high hopes for Nick Cannon’s new talk show with him both being referred to as the hardest working man in show business and at one point the anticipated replacement for Wendy Williams, however things didn’t exactly pan out that way for him. Just 6 months in and only one season under his belt, The Nick Cannon Show largely over lagging viewership.
What started it all is that Cannon’s been a hot commodity from his 2018 breakout #1 show of The Masked Singer and subsequently for how well he did hosting filling in for Wendy Williams in her absence. But his show went on to be the lowest rated show during his time slot. And sources say the show’s showing “show no signs of growth.” He garnered a paltry 400,000 viewers throughout the season where an industry insider said “You can’t survive with those ratings. That’s Bethenny Frankle and Kris Jenner talk show rating territory- it didn’t end well for their shows either.”
One of the issues with Cannon’s show is being a victim of Williams’ personal drama. He was counting on her large audience to spill over into his show and with reruns airing that likely was a contributing factor. What’s sad about this is that he had a nude image of his leak and was being rumored to be walking around rather inconspicuously showing his package off on the show and still couldn’t get good ratings. And we’ll add a criticism we saw on Twitter which was that a new wardrobe might have helped him. Cannon’s an attractive and in shape guy. Why someone started dressing him like a younger Steve Harvey is beyond us and it needs to stop. Even Harvey got a new stylist for Christ’s sake.
Cannon is reportedly heated about the decision. But he’s expected to be allowed to finish the season out and an announcement is expected to be made soon about the decision. Honestly, we were really rooting for Cannon because he’s been in the industry for quite some time and this seemed like a perfect fit for him. So it’s rather disappointing to see his show’s untimely demise.
