Okay, so we admit there’s a little shade in this title but Nicki Minaj announced retiring today on today and you all know how her and Lil Kim are constantly asked about what the other is doing. We love them both, by the way. But the 36 year old rapper tweeted, “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE,” the “Hot Girl Summer.” This announcement comes just weeks after she announced on her Queen Radio show that she had renewed her marriage license and would be getting married soon. Then she sparked pregnancy rumors in June, another reason she likely wants time to work on her family. But hello, it isn’t as though she can’t afford a nanny.

Some say you should get out of the game while you’re still on top and by most metrics with the exception of this year, she’s still on top. Then again, it hasn’t been until this year that she’s faced any real competition as Cardi B’s skyrocketed in popularity and Megan Thee Stallion and City Girls both took over the summer. It was said once that Nicki was working on a new album because Queen, which just turned a year old is now pretty much an after thought. But instead of fighting to keep her crown, she’s seemingly cowering and just slipping out of the back door.
She started her Queen Radio show a full year ago and it literally started off with her calling out everyone in the industry, airing her grievances. Come to think of it, what better way to exit the industry, to talk all of your trash, let everyone know how you feel about them and go enjoy your retirement. And at the same time, retiring at 36 is the envy of many and she’s hardly hurting. She came, did what she had to do and well, we’re going to see if in the morning she still stands by this retirement thing or if she’ll tell us it was all a joke or not.
