Today the girlfriends of R Kelly had their interview with Gayle King air and while they weren’t as animated as R Kelly, their accusations of their parents were just as outrageous. First, for some of the quick takeaways, accusations of their parents wanting them to make a sex tape with R Kelly for future extortion were made as well as one of their parents nearly driving them to the brink of suicide trying to force their child into the industry and R Kelly busted inside of the interview when he said he wouldn’t, presumably to make sure they were still on message.
The two girls were Azriel Clary, 21, and Joycelyn Savage, 23 speaking about their relationship with R Kelly were quite defensive. When King asked “What is your relationship, both of you, with R. Kelly?” and Clary said “We’re with him, that’s our relationship,” you can get an idea of how the interview went. King began to pry into their sexual roles given he’s in a relationship with two women. “Sexually, well, first of all, I’m not here to talk about my personal life, and I would never share with no one what I do in or outside of the bedroom. And as a woman, I’m sure you would not either,” Clary stated. “No, I wouldn’t but I –,” King responded, followed up with “Okay, then, so next question,” Carey snapped.
Both women claimed they’re in love with R Kelly and Clary said her parents have known where she is for four years and that she’s been very well taken care of. That last part is important because it came up multiple times in the interview. King told Clary that her father was in town a few days ago and she wouldn’t look him in the eye. She said that’s because he’s a manipulative liar. King told her there was concern because it started when her father said he found texts between her and R Kelly indicating they were having sex when she was 17. She says that isn’t true, that they weren’t having sex at the time and if there was ever any question about her age it’s because her parents told her to lie about her age and to say she was 18.
“Okay, so when I first met Robert, my parents told me to lie about my age. So when I met him, he thought that I was 18,” Clary said. “On top of that, when I was 17, my parents were actually making me, trying to get me to take photos with him, take sexual videos with him, all kinds of stuff.”
Savage cosigend sayingthat both of their parents were trash. “Both our parents are basically out here trying to get money and scam, because they didn’t agree on what happened, you know, with music or whatever it could be. And they’re just very upset,” Savage said. Both said their parents tried to force them on R Kelly as aspiring singers when neither of them wanted to sing. It was so bad that Clary said she wanted to commit suicide in the past because not only was it something she didn’t want to do, R Kelly said she couldn’t sing. In fact, he said it about both of them.
“Let me tell you something about singing, actually,” Clary stated. “Before I even met R. Kelly, I told my parents I did not want to sing. My parents made singing like a job for me… It’s not something I wanted to do… Not only that, I even tried to kill myself because I did not want to sing, as a cry out for help, to tell them, this is not what I want to do with my life. This is not how I want to spend my life.”
As for what they plan on doing with their lives, Clary responded, “Honestly, I’m happy doing what I’m doing. I haven’t figured out what I want to do with my life, but I know when that time comes, we know Rob is gonna support us regardless.” Savage responded saying “Right, most definitely. He’s our full support, and we’re his full support. And all we need is each other.”
Don’t forget we said earlier to notice that the theme of how well these girls are being taken care of that’s being voluntarily shared was a common theme in the interview. That might explain the tearful breakdown where Clary said that people wanted to believe a facade and not the truth which made them ignorant and “stupid as f***.”
There’s a lot to unpack in this interview. R Kelly can both be taking care of these two women who voluntarily are in this situation enjoying the rewards of being with a celebrity and he can also be a terrible person. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. Both can be true at the same time. Their parents could be telling the truth about her cutting them off and not speaking. They could also have tried extorting R Kelly. The case is ongoing and and we’re going to find out more as things continue to unfold. What we do know that’s true is that R Kelly is currently behind bars for a failure to pay $160,000 in child support. His ex-wife Andrea Kelly has called him abusive and obviously had no problems with him sitting behind bars for non-payment. She won $40 million in their divorce settlement and didn’t give him a dime when he needed bail the first time so that matters. Then there’s the question as to what type of a person can take care of not one but two women while owing child support, rent and several other things. Updates will be reported on as they come.
