Rapper Lil Durk was facing 5 felonies yesterday and has since turned himself in. The charges are connected to the murder of a man at a Varsity restaurant in Atlanta. Before he turned himself in, he proclaimed his innocence on the local news and is now asking to be let out on bail stating there’s no reason to be keeping him. He said that the moment he found out about the felony warrants against him, he flew to Atlanta to handle it, stating he had nothing to hide. Court documents state that since he chose to surrender, he isn’t a flight risk. He says he owns a home that he lives in with his fiancee and child. He points out that he’s a successful artist that gives back to the community, all reasons he isn’t going to take off and disappear if he were to be granted bail. To add insult to injury, the victim happens to be a known criminal with an extensive rap sheet, Durk says which makes it all the more ironic that he’s in jail while the other guy walks free.
Durk had to put his first headlining tour on hold to address his current legal charges. If let out as he’s advocating, he has more time to work on other projects of his, like his recently released cereal he created with SoFlo Snacks. The cereal, DurkiO’s is on sale for $19.99 for those interested on SoFlo’s website. It’s that cost because they’re limited edition and he signed the first 300 of them. He also just reunited with his father after he spent 25 years in prison. That should be reason enough for him not to want to repeat his mistakes and go away for some time himself. If anything, he would want to be able to remain free to repair that relationship. We’ll be updating on his case as new details come in.
