Rapper Mystikal has spent a good majority of this millenium in prison, including 6 years from 2004 to 2010 for sexual battery and extortion and 18 months that he just completed for first degree rape and second degree kidnapping. But he’s out now, as of Wednesday, February 13th after ponying up $3 million he was able to pay thanks to the new record deal he just signed and his family.
As for the charges against him, his attorney Joel Pearce believes he’s going to be cleared of them all. “Based on all of the evidence we have, we strongly believe that an amicable resolution is not only possible but probable as an outcome in this case and that Michael Tyler will never be made to return to jail for a crime he didn’t commit.” The incident allegedly took place at a casino in October 2016. He’s plead guilty to both charges.
Over the course of him being incarcerated he’s had his bond hearing delayed due to new evidence found, his decrease in bail he requested was denied and he received a new judge and defense attorney both in December. His next hearing will be March 6th. There are others involved as well including Darnell Holman, of Shreveport, LA on one count each of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping, and Tenichia Monieck Wafford, of Harker Heights, TX, on one count of obstruction of justice.
Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, is almost 50. He’s 48. What we’re hoping this situation will teach him is that it isn’t just innocence he needs to fight for, but he legitimately has a problem. He’s tried to force his hairdresser prior to his last time in prison to perform a sex act on him and $3 million is a high bond set for someone who’s innocent. There has to be some form of compelling evidence against him. What he doesn’t want is to get in his 70s and 80s like Bill Cosby, still acting up and spend his final days in prison over a habit he never got under control.
