Actress Rebel Wilson came out Thursday announcing that she was in a relationship with another woman. And that woman was Ramona Agruma, a clothing and jewelry designer who owns Lemon Ve Limon. But it turns out that the choice to come out in this manner wasn’t one by choice. A reporter revealed on Twitter that it was an Aussie newspaper that informed her they were going to out her and let her know she had a few days to prepare.

The tweet stated, “So apparently it wasn’t @RebelWilson’s choice to come out… The @smh/@theage have admitted to giving her a heads up 2 days in advance that they were going to ‘out’ her.” And she pointed out that it was gay men partly behind it. Seeing the tweet, Wilson responded, “Thanks for your comments, it was a very hard situation but trying to handle it with grace ❤️”

I’ll add that as someone who was snatched out of the closet as a teenager that is not an enjoyable experience and most within the LGBT community would describe it as being evil. The article discussing her sexuality came across angry that she chose to deflect a question about possibly being gay. They went on to say “It is unlikely she would have experienced the sort of discrimination let alone homophobia – subconscious or overt – that sadly still affects so many gay, lesbian and non-hetero people.” Well they certainly don’t know that. Money does not completely shield you from discrimination and this country is not as welcoming as people would like to think. We still have plenty of suicides and homeless children over this topic so her choice to not go down that road is understandable.

We do however wish Wilson the best in her new relationship despite the rough start with this forced public announcement.
