It’s been about 4 months since Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah was arrested for her participating in a telemarketing scheme where she and her assistant were targeting “vulnerable, often elderly, working-class people.” Well now it appears that any plausible deniability she may have had is gone with her being labeled as one of the ringleaders in the operation. Legal documents show she’s been upgraded to “Tier A” status regarding her involvement along with 5 other people.
Out of the Tier A status people in this case, 2 of them have already been sentenced to 78 and 60 months in prison but they were more “senior” participants. And these senior participants continued doing it even while knowing criminal charges were coming. Ouch.
The US Attorney says Tier A suspects weree “responsible for orchestrating the broader scheme” and said Shah herself”obtained leads directly from lead sources and provided them to, among others, coaching sales floors operated in Utah and Nevada.”
No word from Shah has been made yet. She is currently at home on strict court conditions where she isn’t able to leave Utah without permission and has surrendered her passport. And of course she isn’t able to practice telemarketing while all of this is going on.
If you ask me, where she went wrong was the reunion to their first season where footage of people saying they had no idea what she did for a living was discussed and how she herself didn’t seem to have a clear answer. I will never forget the comedy special where Lewis Black said, “if you have a business and you can’t say in one sentence what it does, it’s illegal.” That is actually one of the truest statements I’ve ever heard.
