There are many things to accuse people of but a fake gay voice is one for the road. And that’s what tv personality Ross Matthews is currently dealing with. The 42 year old was asked on Twitter, “At what age did you start using the ‘gay voice’? Because that is NOT the voice you were born with,” the troll tweeted at Ross. “Why do you need to speak gay It’s so fake. Can’t you be gay and still speak normal?”
Matthews’ response was “This is my voice. Always has been. Always will be. I hated my voice growing up because people like you would judge it. Now I’m empowered by it. My voice is my voice. And it’s gay. ❤️ 💪” But Matthews isn’t the first person to be accused of exaggerating being gay or faking it altogether. In 2021 Lil Nas X was accused of pretending to be gay for clout to which he responded, “no i just like d**k. nothing deep to it lol.”
This is my voice. Always has been. Always will be. I hated my voice growing up because people like you would judge it. Now I’m empowered by it. My voice is my voice. And it’s gay. ❤️ 💪 https://t.co/E48zclqynq

Nevermind that over 60% of suicide attempts among lgbt people occur within the first 5 years of them realizing they’re gay or the fact that it wasn’t until just a year ago where it was no longer possible to fire someone for being gay, somehow people still feel that gays have a societal advantage. And in this case, somehow playing up a gay voice, something people get beat up for would help his career when it often does the opposite for people.
Kudos to Matthews for sticking up for himself, though.
