CBS has a new Frankenstein drama coming out soon and in the pilot stars Shooter actor Ryan Phillippe. The show, centered around Phillipe’s character Mark Escher, a police investigator killed in the line of duty who happens to reappear alive 6 months later. Upon his return, his sunny personality seems to be overcast with gloom as he’s haunted around the circumstances of his death and a case he was working on before his untimely death in a fire at his home. His wife, Elizabeth, played by The Oath’s Katrina Law is a pathologist/medical examiner who together try to get to the bottom of what happened to him, eventually leading them too focus on the man behind his resurrection, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, played by Aaron Staton. He’s an obsessed, brilliant and bizarre acting doctor on the run from an ethics board in China working on a secret project in a lab. He also happens to be Escher’s wife’s ex. Plot twist!
In other Ryan Phillippe news, the 20th anniversary of Cruel Intentions just hit this month and the film will be back in theaters for fans to celebrate. The one week airing begins Friday, March 22nd. If you haven’t seen the film, it’s a revamp of the 80’s romantic drama Dangerous Liasons where a bet was formed between wealthy step-siblings Kathryn, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sebastian, (Ryan Phillippe) to deflower the virginal Annette, played by Reese Witherspoon.
As an interesting fact, Phillippe and Witherspoon married two months after the film’s release date so if there appears to be a little on screen chemistry, that’s because there is. Things didn’t exactly end that way for the two as her career took off after Legally Blonde and it left him feeling overshadowed and somewhat envious of her, that is if the new Reelz docuseries on her life, Reese Witherspoon: The Price of Fame is to be believed.
“Years into their marriage, Reese continued to land lead role after lead role and she honestly became a superstar in her own right, kind of overshadowing Ryan a little bit.” says entertainment journalist Desiree Murphy in the show. In the end, they’ve both had positive things to say each other in recent months with Witherspoon saying she didn’t regret marrying Phillippe and him saying they got together so young which likely was the issue. She’ll also be starring in a third edition of Legally Blonde out Valentine’s Day 2020.
