Monday Night’s remix response to the recent You Can’t Stop the Rain trend is the latest PopGlitz Song of the Day. Originally being a 1985 Loose Ends hit that Lamar did a rendition of on 50 Cent’s BMF that set off a viral trend, when Richmond, Virginia rapper Monday Night chose to do his version of it, it caught our attention. Recently covered by RVA Magazine in December, the Scheme Team rapper has a classic flow that we don’t hear very often. In fact, a younger version of Mos Def comes to mind listening to him. Pitchfork covered him closer to the start of COVID calling his music a “must listen,” referring to him as prolific, neither of which we disagree with.
He told RVA Magazine that he’s been “honing my craft and trying to master what I do and try to find my specific sound, establish that and then go off and try to figure out other things to do.” Honestly he appears to already have his sound because at least compared to what is already on radio, he does sound consistently different and unique in his own lane. But that could mean he has some more things up his sleave. He says he’s only been rapping since 2018 so he’s still young enough in his creative process that who knows what he could do in just a little time? We’re going to be waiting by to report on the progress.
