Rapper Tekashi69’s estranged father, Daniel Hernandez, Sr. shared in a video that he’s been homeless and in a shelter for the last 2 years. And this comes in spite of his son signing a $10 million deal in 2019 before going off to prison. He also had the location of his home blown last year while on house arrest and reportedly moved to Water Mill, NY in a home that’s $60k a month, an upgrade from the $4k a month he was spending before. With that said, in a home that’s over 8,000 square feet, even with the home he was in that was 1,800 square feet, he had a little extra room for his dad that was in a homeless shelter of all places.
The video posted by his father had him saying, “Because I don’t have an apartment, he doesn’t know that I’m in the shelter,” Hernandez, 60, said. “Now he’s going to know I’ve been here for, what, two years already?” He said that he’s been estranged from his son for a decade and he hasn’t offered him anything. “You think he’d come hook me up with something,” he said. “He’s been giving money to other people. … He gives money to everybody. ‘Here, here, here.’”
And he makes a good point about Tekashi giving everyone money. That is how he got into the rap game. He was bankrolling a gang for the clout and when he stopped doing it, that’s when things started getting ugly. That’s when he got kidnapped etc. You don’t order people to be shot or shot at in public etc and then not pay up.
We first became aware of who Tekashi’s dad is when he showed up to his sentencing despite not seeing him since he was a little kid. “It’s way too late to show and speak on his behalf. You squandered that right many years ago,” the judge said at the sentencing. “I took one glance — I see my biological father. I haven’t seen him since the third grade,” Tekashi, now 25, said, addressing the court before being sentenced. “I don’t even know if this is a f–kin’ joke, everything I go through.” Outside of the courtroom he said, “I wanted to tell him I love him. I miss him,” he said. “Why is he going to be angry?”
The reason for Tekashi being estranged from his dad is because his mother put him out after catching him doing heroin in the bathroom. And his step-father was briefly in his life but was shot dead when he was 13. His mother cleaned apartments and collected recyclables for money, he told the those in the courtroom. His attorney said of his father’s appearance, “Too little, too late. I think it startled Daniel.”
I would just ask as someone who has lost both parents and grandparents, you only get one father and you don’t want to keep this beef up forever. I felt how he did about my mother, didn’t speak to her for a decade, one day decided to reconnect and she was gone under 2 years later. His father is 58 and my mother was about the same age. Hopefully those two will be able to rekindle at some point.
