While scrolling through Twitter, I looked over and saw Rolling Ray was trending and whatever it was, I knew it couldn’t be good. For those who don’t know who he is, he’s a gay rapper in a wheelchair from DC known for his appearance on Divorce Court and a number of viral social media posts. The chances are if you see his name, it’s followed by something ratchet. But with that being said, skimming through I see a bunch of people laughing about his wig catching fire. Then upon further notice, I saw he was hospitalized escaping a fire. So why again are people laughing about this?

To put this post into context, I lived in a high rise and similarly survived a 3 or 4 alarm fire. I saw people tied bedsheets to get out of the window, all the alarms didn’t go off and I almost slept through it. And of course who I was dating at the time swore it was nothing and that alarms go off all the time in the high rise they lived in and told me to go back to sleep. I heard someone in a wheelchair got stuck in the stairwell and suffered from smoke inhalation. Did I mention Rolling Ray was in a wheelchair? Just getting out of the first floor of a house would be traumatic in a wheelchair much less an apartment or condo of any type.

On Instagram Live Rolling Ray is showing how his face is burned and people are laughing which can mean only one thing… 2021 is going to be just as f*cked up and terrible as 2020 if for no other reason than things like this. So far we nearly had Congress murdered on live television and just when I thought I could sit back and say it’s just white people acting up, #BlackTwitter’s making fun of a handicapped black artist almost burning up in a fire. I keep asking about that asteroid that was supposed to hit last year. I think it would have been for the better.
