CBS Chicago reporter Charlie De Mar has reported that the two Nigerians in the Jussie Smollett case, Olabinjo Osundairo and Abimbola Osundairo, have been released and are no longer considered to be suspects. This comes afte a long day of interrogation as their attorney first arrived around noon today. They were arrested for suspicion of battery. They first were picked up by police Wednesday afternoon after returning from Nigeria. They left the same evening Smollett was attacked. Ola has appeared on Empire and they both have had minor roles on Chicago PD.

Chief Communications Officer for the Chicago Police Department, Anthony Guglielmi stated “Detectives have probable cause that they may have been involved in an alleged crime and we are working to corroborate the allegations and investigative timeline as our investigation continues.”

Their attorney Gloria Schmidt said they were “baffled” as to why they would be persons of interest given that they were friends, they follow each other on Instagram and they’ve even attended the same gym together from time to time. As of now they have been released without any charges and it appears to be back to square one in identifying who his attackers are. Also note that throughout this entire ordeal, the Chicago police department has maintained that there has been no evidence to show that the attack on the Empire star is a hoax. The Chicago Police Department has also stated that “due to new evidence as a result of today’s interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the ‘Empire’ case have now been released without charging.” Their spokesman, Guglielmi said they still have some “additional investigative work to complete.”
