It’s been about 4 months since Meghan McCain quit The View after allegations of bullying and abuse from the rest of the cast and production has struggled to find a replace since. Executive Producer Brian Teta is currently being pressured to find an permanent replacement as it’s starting to annoy the rest of the cast.
Politico reports “Nearly six months in, the show has yet to settle on a permanent replacement. And now, the longtime co-hosts — Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin — are upping the pressure to pick a successor, and voicing their displeasure at having to introduce new guest hosts week after week in a seemingly endless process that they find disruptive to the flow of the show.”
“Sources close to the show said that the search has stalled as executives struggle to find a conservative cast-member who checks all the right boxes,” the report added. “They will not consider a Republican who is a denier of the 2020 election results, embraced the January 6 riots, or is seen as flirting too heavily with fringe conspiracy theories or the MAGA wing of the GOP. But at the same time, the host must have credibility with mainstream Republicans, many of whom still support Donald Trump.”
Criticism of their search ranged from comments of those saying this type of moderate Republican simply didnt exist to those that say only someone who wants to be beat up on in perpetuity would take the job. The requirement of what they’re looking for really isn’t unreasonable. Don’t support attacking the US Capitol over lies about election fraud and base your commentary in facts and not conspiracy theories.
The problem is from my own political experience, that is not where the party currently is. It started with allowing the former President to say whatever on television because the Right was blood thirsty in 2016 so they were willing to look the other way while he touted conspiracy theories, appointed incompetent people and lied because he could. This type of Conservative that is respected by the party that isn’t crazy to fill this seat in theory seems simple but in 2021, it makes complete sense as to why it’s so difficult doing.
