Unnecessary Trouble by Demetria McKinney and Kandi Burruss is a collaboration that came at the end of McKinney’s time on The Real Housewives of Atlanta about two friends where one doesn’t want to hear the other trying to tell them about their man cheating. If art imitates life, that is absolutely the case because this song was the climax of Demetria’s time on the show summing up her 8 year on again off again relationship with Atlanta film producer Roger Bobb that sent just about the whole cast trying to get her to see the red flags about him.
In 2015, Demetria spent two seasons on The Real Housewives of Atlanta largely as the center of a relationship scandal where her fiance, famed Atlanta film producer Roger Bobb was her man and apparently that of someone else and maybe a couple other people. First, a friend of Kandi’s, Atlanta hairstylist Gocha Hawkins who said she dated him around the same time they were together, sending Demetria out of the room crying. She had previously said her and Roger spent 8 years together and kept things a secret because of their careers. This lead to NeNe Leakes asking, “Who dates somebody eight years when you’re almost 40-years-old?” Gocha said that Roger told her Demetria was “just an artist” of his and told Cynthia Bailey, “I do not know her, but I know him.”
In the end, Demetria and Roger split and I’m sure they can look back at the making of this song and the video by the famous Derek Blanks as therapeutic closure to the situation, even though Demetria remained with him at least another 6 months. It arguably made for one of the best songs created by one of the Housewives in the history of the franchises.
