Rapper Blueface uploaded a video of him on Skid Row Monday standing on top of a G Wagon throwing money at the homeless. To some, they would call it a Christmas miracle. Imagine being on the street away from family with nothing to your name and then seeing money flying from the air. Well the internet thought otherwise. It was described as a demeaning act, both embarrassing to the homeless and done for attention. Activist Deray McKesson tweeted, “Giving back” is never indiscriminately spreading limited resources then encouraging people to compete for them while one watches with glee. FYI.”
In reality, rappers do enjoy giving back to their community. No matter what people think of any of them or their music, they almost all speak about wanting to come home and give back to their community. Could the way it was done be better? Possibly, but let the man give his money away how he sees fit. And for anyone who has ever worked in the nonprofit sector, it’s a proven fact that had he given to one or gave the money to a shelter or 3, they would probably never see it. Rapper Cupcakke called him a “real life CORNBALL” over it. Then again, she has some identity issues of her own since she said she’s quitting rapping because she doesn’t want to go to hell.
An eye opening perspective here came from Tiffany Haddish who stated that she’s from South Central L.A. and that not only is it not abnormal to have gang members, drug dealers and people with money to give away turkeys and other things in the community but that they also go out there and throw money while standing on top of their best vehicle. It happens so often to where she’s seen it so many times, she said it’s more like tradition. And the important thing to note here is that he was throwing out $100 bills He wasn’t throwing out 1s. That could be money for someone to get a room so they don’t have to be in the cold for the night or anything. She said it’s a blessing.
And ladies and gentlemen, this is the benefit of having people who know what they’re talking about speak and this should essentially close the chapter of commentary on this topic. As I see it, if people want to give out money in their community, let them do it. It’s no one else’s money. And unless someone has the thousands of $100 bills to match what BlueFace was giving away and have a better way to give it out, nothing should be said. The End.
