Travis Scott won’t be representing Dior anytime soon as the brand just called off their partnership out of respect for the victims of this year’s Astroworld Festival. This was going to be a collaboration between Scott and Dior artistic director Kim Jones, announced over the summer. A rep for the high fashion brand said, “This unprecedented event represents the first full Dior collection ever created with a musician for the house.”
Jones told Hypebeast over the summer, “I started talking to Travis about the Foundation he wants to set up to allow students to go to college at Parsons School of Design that can’t afford to go and fulfil their dreams. So I thought it was nice to then talk to him and say, why don’t we do something together? Because then you’re working with a fashion brand and a couture house that can support this project, as well.”
But now all of that is going on the backburner as its January 2022 release date is being postponed. A rep for Dior said, “Out of respect for everyone affected by the tragic events at Astroworld, Dior has decided to postpone indefinitely the launch of products from the Cactus Jack collaboration originally intended to be included in its summer 2022 collection.”
A source close to the company said this was a “mutual decision made by both Dior and Travis Scott to postpone the upcoming collection due in January 2022 with both parties working to reschedule the launch at a later date.”
But everyone isn’t completely against Scott in this Astroworld debacle. Cedric the Entertainer recently took his side blaming the police instead. “I looked at some of the videos and everything, I mean, the police were right there in front of them and they’re not reacting. That’s their job,” Cedric said. He added, “Never was he up on stage yelling, ‘Let’s fuck them up and turn it up and let’s go and let’s get wilder.’ He didn’t incite it. I really wouldn’t like him to take the blame for that.” Meanwhile Scott’s lawyer, Edwin F. McPherson has called for an end to “finger-pointing” regarding the investigation and urged for authorities to focus so “we can identify exactly what transpired and how we can prevent anything like this from ever happening again.”
And all of this comes at the most inopportune time because his girl Kylie Jenner’s pregnant and some believe she’s given birth in secret. We were going to say hopefully he can get back to work in light of this but hell, she’s a billionaire. He’ll be fine while all of this is going on.
