The View has been a show that to some has become to some people a massive politically polarizing show to the point their eyes roll whenever it’s mentioned. Still, the show houses some amazing talent, namely Whoopi Goldberg. Whether you like her, her politics or hate them both, she’s an incomparable star. This is important to remember because she just revealed on The View today by video message that she almost left this Earth from a bad bout with pneumonia.

“Yes, it’s me,” Goldberg said in her video message. “I am here, I am up and moving around—not as fast as I’d like to be, but I am OK, I’m not dead. So here’s what happened. I had pneumonia and I was septic. Pneumonia in both lungs, which meant there was fluid, there was all kinds of stuff going on and yes, I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news—I didn’t.”

“Thank you for all of your good wishes, all of the wonderful things that people have been saying, even people who are not like huge fans of mine have actually said nice things about. We all know that’s gonna change when I get back, but for right now, it’s brilliant,” she said.

She added, “Thank you for everything, and ladies, I cannot wait to see ya’ll. This has been, uh, interesting and I’ll tell you about it when we’re all at the table.”

While she was out, there were rumors that she wasn’t actually sick and working on something else. Joy Behar had to come to her defense saying “She’s actually recovering from pneumonia, it’s a serious thing,” she then explained. “I don’t think she’s going to be able to host the Oscars and I’m sure she’s very disappointed. She’s not even well enough to host this show right now.” She’s added that she recently connected with her and confirmed she’s “very funny still” and is “on the mend.”

This is a perfect example of how we need to give people their roses while we still have the chance to do so. I for one am not ready to lose Whoopi. She’s represented #BlackExcellence for as long as I’ve been on this Earth and we need to keep her around as a good example to the rest of Hollywood.
