Whoopi Goldberg’s now on day 3 of her two week suspension from The View after saying the Holocaust wasn’t about race. She’s reportedly been livid about it and has been said to be threatening to quit to her friends. New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said her suspension was uncalled for and Forbes best described it as a Tale of Two Reactions, given how somehow Conservative media has placed the show at the top of their attack list over the years juxtaposed with it being ranked at #1 in households.
A lot of talk about Goldberg’s suspension have occurred including whether it’s a real suspension and if she’ll be gone in 2 weeks like what happened to Sharon Osbourne. We highly doubt that by the way, given how long she’s been on the show and has been a major part of their ratings. With that being said, The Daily Mail did some digging and revealed that her salary is $5 million a year which after taxes is $40,000 a week, is on UNpaid suspension and “will lose out on her $192,000 paycheck for those two weeks.”
“It’s a new day at ABC News. Kim [Godwin] wants her entire team to be held accountable for their words and actions. There has been a real power vacuum on The View since Barbara Walters retired because she ran the show with an iron first,” a show insider told the outlet. The added, “Whoopi is welcome to return after her unpaid two-week suspension. She took the news well and understood where the network was coming from.”
Now if there is anything that will get you in trouble faster than anything else, it is being even remotely antisemitic. There have been instances where people weren’t and just the misreporting lead to people making numerous apologies and having to take guided tours through the Holocaust Museum for understanding. We’re actually looking forward to revisiting this discussion when Goldberg returns. For the record, The Holocaust wasn’t required as a teaching in public schools literally until a year ago so it actually is understandable how anyone could be misguided on the topic. It really isn’t as common knowledge as people think.
