Snoop Dogg is on minority community strike two when he made remarks this week saying he was uncomfortable with LGBT characters in children films. It sparked remarks from Billy Porter who said “ Don’t worry about the gays. Worry about explaining your criminal past and cooning for Trump to your grandson!” TS Madison went on TMZ Live saying, “ Snoop Dogg has music videos with women dancing and kissing other women, dancing naked. So why is displaying lesbian behavior in your music videos appropriate? And you’re afraid to answer the questions from your grandchildren?”
She added, “As a parent, you should also explain to your children that other things exist in the world, outside of what you have deemed normal in your own home. It’s rooted in a bit of homophobia.”  Even the film’s screenwriter Lauren Gunderson chimed in explaining why she added that scene saying, “A character needed a partner, and it was natural to write ‘she’ instead of ‘he.’ I knew the impact it could have. I’m proud. To infinity. Love is love.”

So just what brought on such a reaction? Well during an appearance on the It’s Giving podcast he said he was “scared to go to the movies” after taking his 6 year old grandson to a screening of Lightyear when he was asked about two women having a child in the movie. He told the podcast host, “I didn’t come here for this shit! I just came to watch the goddamn movie! … Fuck me, I’m scared to go to the movies. They’re throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for.“

Now my first reaction to this was, has he never heard of adoption? How does he think two women have a child? It certainly isn’t from a plastic 🍆. And then at the same time, the fact this was an animated film completely went over his head. The damn baby could have been delivered by a stork! All he had to do was say it’s a movie and anything is possible or just wait until it’s over. And why are you talking in the middle of a movie anyway??

We’re just glad that he realized what he did wrong. It’s okay. We all miss the mark from time to time. As long as we learn from it, that’s all that matters.
