Lala Anthony did an interview with Self Magazine released today speaking about health challenges she’s had. The 39 year old said in 2019 she was diagnosed with a condition that causes her to have extra heart beats. She was in the middle of filming BH90210 in Vancouver when her 14-year-old son Kiyan told her, “Mom, please let them call [an ambulance] because you don’t look like yourself.'” When taken to the hospital, she had a cardiac ablation which is a catheter-based heart procedure that had her hospitalized for 4 days.

Regarding the condition, premature ventricular contractions, or PVCs, she said, There were a lot of scary moments. They would wake me up during the procedure and say, ‘We’re going to speed your heart up now…just take deep breaths.'” She added, “Those doctors were just so incredible. But it was a terrifying experience.”
She also said she had experienced it for years but because it was all she ever knew, she put off getting checked. “I felt my heart racing all the time, but because it’s all I ever really knew, I didn’t even know that it was necessarily something wrong,” she told Self. “I just thought, Oh, you just feel your heart racing sometimes because you’re working too much, you haven’t slept, you’re stressed. You know, we, especially Black people, like to self-diagnose. We got all the answers.”
