The date was May 24th, 2023 when Patterson, NJ rapper Fetty Wap found out he had been sentenced to 6 years in prison for drug trafficking charges. He had actually been behind bars since August of 2022 for having his bond revoked for pulling a gun out on a livestream threatening someone in December of 2021 when he wasn’t supposed to own a gun at the time. Now after serving about 3 years in prison he’s out and just 2 months later he’s already announced his comeback album, Zavier to be released March 27th. Now if you’re wondering where the title comes from, he’s recently changed his Instagram name to Zavier Jordan Maxwell which isn’t his real name but apparently a moniker he’s chosen to go by.
In a cinematic trailer posted to his Instagram account, Fetty said in the clip, “When you lose the money everybody think that’s the worst part.” He went on to say, “When it get real quiet that’s when it hit different. I got so used to hearing Fetty everywhere I go, before I even knew who Zavier was. Somewhere in all that, I became a character in my own life. People really loved what I could provide for real, not who I really was.” He finished by adding, “When they take everything away, what you got left is the person your momma made.” He captioned it with Zavier x Fetty. Now Fetty is already a stage name so it’s interesting to see him choose a second one to go by.

In a statement about the project he said, “I’m just happy and grateful to be back and thankful that my fans didn’t forget about me. I’m so thankful to my family, fans and team for holding me down. This new music is a reflection of a new chapter in my life. I just want to bring back good energy and good vibes. I love y’all.” The album will have 17 tracks and will be his first since 2023’s King Zoo. He has 4 Northeast tour dates starting April 4th in Montclair, NJ.
Even before going to prison as far back as December 2020 he said it was bad management, greed and selfishness that halted his career. He’s since said since being home that he feels he has a “clear mindset” moving forward. We wish him the best. He’s just 34 and still has time to get himself back on track.
