Young Thug almost didn’t make it out of the pandemic. Towards the beginning, he experienced liver and kidney failure that literally rendered his body lifeless. In a new Rolling Stone interview he said, “I kinda just stayed in the bed and I was like, ‘Yo, call the ambulance. I can’t move my body.’ Then later, when the ambulance came, I couldn’t get out of the bed. They had to get me out of the bed, basically. I felt like my whole body was numb and I couldn’t move. I went to the hospital and I had found out that I had liver and kidney failure. And I kinda had sorta passed away, like I kinda died.”
He touched on the subject some during a live streamed concert in April where he simply said, “Drugs aren’t good, don’t do drugs.” He also talked about how the pandemic helped change some of his views and how he incorporated these new revelations in his upcoming album ‘Punk’ saying, “With Punk I tapped into more real world. I’m just rapping more about life situations, because I had time to sit down and actually reflect and think [during the pandemic].”
And like many of the rest of the world, his displeasure with being stuck at home and the toll that can cause was made clear. “Prison is the worst thing, but being in the house not being able to do nothing — and you can die from air!?” He did, however state that video games helped him get through the pandemic. “I done got so f***ing tied into video games… I talked to so many n***as on Call of Duty, s**t’s crazy. Just bored. ‘Hey, what’s up, what you got going, bro?’”
While everyone’s arguing about DaBaby, Boosie and Lil Nas X, we’ve got other parts of the industry that almost didn’t make it here today that see life in a different light. We already know what’s going to happen with this DaBaby situation. He’s not winning this one. And Boosie is going to threaten the right gay and then he won’t have to threaten anyone else. Sometimes it takes a life threatening situation like organ failure to get a person on the right path. Remember Boonkgang and how getting his teeth knocked out and jaw wired shut has him on Instagram reading the bible and giving back to the community now? That’s what the pandemic did for Young Thug. Maybe those other people mentioned except for Lil Nas X can get their mouths wired shut so they can learn a thing or two from being QUIET.
