After weeks of receiving condemnation in the strongest of terms for inflammatory remarks he made on stage about gays and those with HIV/AIDS, rapper 50 Cent has attempted to come to DaBaby’s defense. He’s basically said he feels he’s able to come back from this using Chris Brown as an example of someone that bounced back multiple times.
In an interview with E!’s Nightly Pop, when asked if DaBaby could come back by co-hosts Morgan Stewart McGraw, Nina Parker, he said, “Yeah, he will. As long as he keeps his consistency with the music. Remember they canceled Chris Brown, five, six times?” He described DaBaby as “a really talented, special artist” who made a blunder.
“He just transitioned from being in that pool that everyone’s in, as a rap artist. They didn’t notify him that he’s turning into a superstar. There’s nobody that tells you, ‘now you’re being held to these standards that are mainstream standards that you can’t say things, you can’t do these different things.’
“He’s just two years into his career, there’s no artist development, no A&R,” he added, “and he’s definitely had no media training.”
Now this is a perspective we could accept. There is a business aspect here to discuss. Our criticism has been how his business was handled throughout all of this and that is what 50 Cent addressed. He had probably the sanest reaction to all of this.
