An unsuspecting woman in North Texas found herself the victim of an internet scam where a man pretended to be Grammy award winning singer Bruno Mars. She fell in love with an Instagram account pretending to be him that was sending her pics while on tour and even said he wanted to leave the tour to be with her. The culprit, Chinwendu Azuonwu hit her up for $10,000 in tour expenses and turned around asking for $90,000 a month later in 2018 to both be deposited in two different accounts.
While it isn’t clear what set off the suspicion given how it all started, warrants were issued for the catfish and his accomplice Basil Amadi with claimed he had no idea how the money got into his account. Both men have been charged with money laundering and are expected to be in court for third degree money laundering.
May this be a lesson this Valentine’s Day not to be desperate and go to these lengths to be with someone. And this is especially important for older people as they’re always looked at as prey. If it seems too good to be true, it probaby is.
