A$AP Rocky’s 4th album Don’t Be Dumb has been delayed numerous times, since before COVID, 2018 to be exact and now he’s speaking out about what the cause is. After missing most recently an August 30th release date, he shared a response to an NFR Podcast post where he said “LEAKS & SAMPLE CLEARANCES ARE DISRUPTING THE ALBUM. ITS BEEN 6 YEARS & I WANNA MAKE THE BEST ALBUM EVER. IM SORRY FOR THE WAIT.” He said the same thing in his Billboard cover story where he said “At this point I’ve been working on music for six years, but they leak my music and I get over it and say, ‘F–k it,’ ” he says. “They leak a lot of the music and it ruins it. Like my ‘Taylor Swift’ video. I was pissed off about it, so I never released it.”

This is reminiscent of Lil Wayne’s 6 year delay of Tha Carter V but in his case he was in a high profile legal dispute with his label that had grown so contentious his tour bus was shot up in 2015. And this was on top of the clearance issues and leaks he had going on at the time. Artist direction is something that can take time to get together, though. Skepta has spoken about how dedicated to his craft that Rocky is and said he’s committed to delivering a high quality album. And then there is the irony of Mick Jagger who has criticized him saying his music sounded too close to theirs which hints at him not spending ENOUGH time on his craft. At least that’s from the Rolling Stones’ perspective.
In other A$AP Rocky news, he used his recent Billboard feature to talk about his feud with Drake and basically say it’s inconsequential. “You got to realize, certain n**gas was throwing shots for years. I ain’t in the middle of that s**t. That’s not how I retaliate right now,” he told the outlet. He later explained, “I got bigger fish to fry than some p**sy boys. It is real beef outside. It is real. N**gas getting really clipped and blitzed every day. N**gas sniping n**gas every day. That little kitty s**t ain’t about nothing.” A recent lyric of his about Rihanna saying “Flaco hit it first” we’re sure didn’t help quell things between the two because it’s been years that Drake has allegedly been pissed at him for getting Rihanna. You might remember that time Drake tried to kiss Rihanna at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards where she dodged the kiss and it’s been all downhill since. He unfollowed Rocky when she announced being pregnant by him and it’s been a war of words since. But to A$AP Rocky’s point, rappers and people are being dropped everyday. To be beefing over a girl that he actually won is just silly.
